Ovelar is broadening its shrink sleeve production through the addition of a new MPS combination press, its fourth investment from the Dutch press manufacturer for the growing labelling technology. Shrink sleeves has proven to be a lucrative segment for Ovelar, and the company continually invests in innovative shrink sleeve label decoration technologies and actively pursues new applications.

In addition to flexographic plates, rotogravure printing units are also integrated into Ovelar’s new MPS press which can apply various types of high-quality inks or vibrant graphic effects to shrink sleeves. Jesús Ovelar, CEO of Grupo Ovelar, comments on the new MPS investment, He says, “This new press is intended for production of highly complex shrink sleeves, which brand owners are increasingly adapting in their packaging portfolios, as a way to further differentiate themselves in a highly competitive market. This investment will further strengthen Ovelar’s position in this segment, in which our company provides printing widths from 430mm to 660mm and an extensive range of finishing options.”

Grupo Impryma, the local MPS representative in Spain led the sale, and according to its CEO Félix Prieto, MPS quote requests for this type of combined press have increased due to a higher demand for shrink sleeves and growing interest for smaller production runs. “MPS has specialised in this segment in recent years by designing very complex machines with a much higher number of printing units, resulting in more finishing options than has traditionally been provided by rotary presses, ” says Prieto. “This latest press sale to Ovelar is the most complex MPS machine on the Spanish market.”

Ovelar was awarded by Liderpack 2017 the Best In Show Packaging distinction for its Mojitos Karibeño sleeve printed with 8-color high resolution UV flexo printing. The awards ceremony will be held at Hispack 2018 in May.
